- How do microbial populations change over space and time?
- How do symbionts influence the fitness of their hosts?
- Can we manipulate pathogens to undertand the emergence of disease and develop new approaches to treating disease using evolution?
These are some of the broad research questions my lab is interested in asking. We work across a broad range of organismal systems, however our primary focus is on microbiome studies, multi-drug resistant bacteria and RNA viruses
We rely heavily on high throughput genetic sequencing to provide us with genomic scale data, which we analyse using methods from population genetics, phylogenetics and evolutionary biology to test our hypotheses. Click on our research page for specific examples of our work.
